President Barack Obama State Of The Union Address 2012 Highlights (Video):

President Obama: “The state of our Union is getting stronger.”

President Obama spoke last night and gave his annual State Of the Union Address.  The president focused on several issues including taxes, small business, entrepreneurship and the improving economy. The president could have spent more time on the economy and perhaps should have given the audience more economic data points that prove the economy is clearly in turnaround mode such as the improvement to the jobs market in the last few months.  His team will need to sell this in the November 2012 elections and ask the American people if they really want to change course now.

The positive changes in the U.S. economy are still in the early ages and the president’s economic team will need to push the issue so it resonates with people long before November – even if the turnaround is not complete.  The most interesting part of last night’s State of the Union speech was when the President Obama addressed his critics directly and responded to charges that America has lost its influence.

President Obama stated:

From the coalitions we’ve built to secure nuclear materials, to the missions we’ve led against hunger and disease; from the blows we’ve dealt to our enemies, to the enduring power of our moral example, America is back.

Anyone who tells you otherwise, anyone who tells you that America is in decline or that our influence has waned, doesn’t know what they’re talking about.

Some business owners, economists and analysts are completely behind the curve or won’t acknowledge the differences between 2008 and 2011.  Doom and gloom forecasters should largely be ignored and won’t have credible investment or political economy advice.
