The Top Economic Data Points To Watch Next Week – Ended Jan 27, 2012:

Next week is a economics data packed. From housing to the FOMC decision, initial jobless claims and durable goods orders, some indications of how 2011 ended and 2012 will continue get released this week.

1/26    New Home Sales
1/25    Pending Home Sales

The housing market seems to have turned the corner at a time when cold weather is expected to make housing less interesting.  Did mild weather on the East Coast, until this week, help or did new buyers decide it was time to get in before the summer?

1/25    Federal Open Market Rate Decision

Is the economy getting better? If so, by how much?

1/26    Initial Jobless Claims

No follow through on initial jobless claims would not be too unexpected if changes from 2 weeks ago were based on seasonality but another +/-25,000 would make jobs growth become a larger issue in general considerations about the economy getting better and more people may begin looking for jobs. Last week initial jobless claims fell by 50,000

1/26   Durable Goods Orders
1/27   GDP Q4
1/27    Michigan Sentiment

These data points are a combination of capital spending, more info on last year and expectations.  The week could end with major averages rising to new highs and increased interest in equities short term if investors feel more good news is coming.
