President Obama Speaks on Gadhafi:
President Obama spoke today about the death of Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi. He spoke at approximately 2:05 EST today and confirmed that the leader of the country for 42 years was killed. The president gave no specifics about how Gadhafi was killed but spoke more about the future of the country.
President Obama stated:
Today we can definitively say that the Qaddafi regime has come to an end. The last major regime strongholds have fallen. The new government is consolidating the control over the country. And one of the world’s longest serving dictators is no more.
Political analysts are weighing in on how the outcome took place. First, President Obama got a resolution authorizing action, then a coordinated joint effort with NATO as well as Libyan troops occurred. The president mentioned that no U.S. soldiers were lost in the conflict. Could this be a new way of resolving these issues in the region?
President Obama reminded the audience and viewers in his speech today:
Without putting a single U.S. service member on the ground we have achieved our objectives, and our NATO mission will soon come to an end.
The Arab Spring could be developing into an Arab Fall/Winter as areas of conflict continue. Middle-East North Africa analysts are considering the recent developments in Libya as a new option for handling conflicts in the region and this result will be studied further as the Arab Spring changes seasons.
